Chingford U13's WIN!
By Andrew Metcalfe
Makings of team confirmed with proper decent play
With Chingford recovered from the previous week's knock, we played hosts to our League opponents Billericay.
The game kicked off and settled immediately into a sustained period of Billericay attack. Chingford were slowly pressed to defending in our 22 and it was only opportune grabs at the loose ball kept us in the game at this point. Harry deserves mention for repeated territory gain to take the pressure off the defensive line. Ant, working on the wing was having to step up into the role and delivered some fine work to again offer Chingford a breather from Billericay's attack.
With some knock-ons and some scrums it became apparent that Chingford were resetting the territory. Credit to both teams for the next ten minutes which brought out some great play from both. Oliver's kick and run was excellent, pressing the receiver with a Sebastien Chabal tackle to allow Chingford to edge to Billericay's 22. Charlie and Oskar maintained possession. With the ball being passed well by Will and Seb to the wing, Ryan was able to collect and run over to give first points to Chingford!
Continued good scrum work meant we were winning more ball from rucks and set pieces. Good work from Devin, Oskar, Ryan, Roy, Joshua, Daragh resulted in Ethan being able to run the ball in for a second try. Half time Chingford 10, Billericay 0.
With players rotated, Chingford settled down well in the second half. Again Billericay were pushing Chingford back into their 22, but an excellently thought through kick from Seb, sending the ball from the right wing to the left, released Kayden unmarked to run the length of the pitch for another try. We've seen how kicking can go wrong in games of players this age, but this was really well thought through - classy!
Billericay snatched a try back shortly after, reading a pass and intercepting. Chingford 15, Billericay 5.
With both teams starting to tire, and Chingford's penalty rate looking a little high, it was with some relief to see a strong team build-up, with good hands from all, to offer Ryan the opportunity to score again. Osker's work to Harry to Ethan released Kayden to increase the scores. Chingford 25, Billericay 5. Additional work from Adam, Joe and Miles helped Chingford maintain their lead despite continued attack from Billericay.
A further score from Billericay and Seb intercepting and then scoring meant the game finished Chingford 30, Billericay 10. A solid win against comparable opposition.
We can only conclude that it will be great to play this team again......and that's exactly what's going to happen, with a return match at Billericay's ground first week into the new year - oh yeah!
